Baseball Guys has a few posts up on SWIP, a new metric that attempts to measure control of the strike zone. The basic stat is (K-BB)/IP. It rewards guys who get strikeouts by setting up hitters and controlling location rather than with extreme, uncontrolled movement. I'd like to see how it stacks up to K:BB ratio in predicting performance, which perhaps I'll do at a later date. In the meantime, here's
part I and
part II. Part III will be up later.
